Hello all - As some of you already know Ted was put into the hospital on Friday.  He has not been able to eat anything because he cannot swallow.  Every time he tries he gags and can't keep anything down.  He weighed in at a whopping 94 lbs.  They thought they might need to stretch his esophagus again so they did a scope to see what was going on.  They have decided that he has a yeast infection in his throat which is common with people on chemo.  So they are trying to clear that up and see if that will help or if they will still have to go in and stretch the esophagus.  He is in the hospital at least through the weekend, I would not be surprised to see them keep him until he can eat normal food.  He was pretty weak when we went to see him today but that is to be expected.  They have put him on a nutrition I.V.  It is supposed to give him all the nutrients he needs since he can't eat.  Hopefully it will help him get some energy back.  It is a workout for him just to get up to go to the restroom.  He is supposed to have his next chemo treatment on Wednesday, but I guess we will see what happens with all this stuff first.  It has been tough watching him go downhill like he has.  But we were talking to him today and told him he could quit chemo at any time it was his choice.  He said no way he is going all the way.  He said if it works and does what it is supposed to it will all be worth it.  So he still has hope which is a good thing.  Now if we could all be as strong as he is.  He is the one going through all the crap and we think we feel bad having to watch it.  Go figure.  Anyway, I will keep you all updated and let you know when he gets to come home. Love ya all! Brooke Budd

Hello Everyone, Ted had his second round of Chemo on Wednesday, he went back on Friday and had the pump removed.  He had a really bad day on Saturday but felt a little better on Sunday.  Yesterday Joanne had to take him to the doctor because he was very sick.  They said he was severely dehydrated.  He had to get an IV which he has to go back down today and tomorrow to get it again.  He lost 6 lbs in less than a week.  Joanne has to give him a shot every 4 hours for diarrhea.  He says the pain that he had in his stomach, where the kidney cancer is, has gone away.  The doctor said that is a good sign.  The Chemo must be doing it's job. We need to get him to eat and drink so he can stay strong.  I think it has been tougher for him because he is bones and skin.  There is nothing for his body to live on if he does not eat.  His next Chemo treatment is on April 1.  I will keep in touch and let you know his progress. Love you all!  Brook

Hello all - We went to the Cancer Institute to see the doctor today. We found out that Ted's colon cancer has come back and he also has kidney cancer which is what has probably caused the cancer that has spread to the lung. He will start Chemotherapy treatments on Monday. He has to go down and have something surgically put into his chest by his shoulder that has a tube they insert into a vein that goes to a vein just above the heart. That is what they hook the iv into and they can also draw blood from it as well, which is good so he does not have to get poked over and over. He will have that put in Monday morning and go directly to his first chemo treatment. He will also have a bag of medicine they send home that he has to wear for 2 days. After the 2 days he will go back and have that removed and wait 12 days to start again. He will have treatments twice a month. In 3 months he will have another CAT scan to see how things are working. We feel good about this and hope it works. We were just happy there was an option for the last week we weren't so sure. I also think it gave Ted hope, he had been down in the dumps lately. I will try to keep you all informed of his progress in the next three months. Love you all and stay healthy! Love, Brooke Budd / buddfam@earthlink.net
